Venture Camp Day 1

Not much to write about today, but it was another first for our group. It was the start of our first ever venture summer camp. The ventures did the shopping for the first few days on Saturday. We hit the road on Sunday and headed to Achill Island, Co. Mayo. There was of course the obligatory stop in Longford for a bite to eat.

We arrived in Achill at about 4:15 and set up camp. It’s an exposed campsite right beside the beach so we went with low profile 2 man tents hidden behind the cars for more protection from the Atlantic Winds.

We were kindly requested* to take the gazebo down.

After a quick scan of the area and hunt for dreamy staff members , dinner was put on. With a bit of extra effort and gear than originally planned we managed to get it sorted. And it was very tasty and healthy too. Thanks Mary.

A stroll on the beach after washups and a bit of messing was followed by some amazing crepes from a lovely couple by the beach who were very interested in us as their child has just joined their local scout group.

As it got dark, the rain arrived. The common room and kitchen were closed so we improvised a shelter with a tarp and Ciaran and Brendan’s cars, sparked up a lantern and chatted for the remainder of the night before hitting the sac.
