First Hike - Greystones - Bray
We met at the train station in Balbriggan at 8:30am to get the train to Pearse and then on to Greystones. Fiona went and got 4 family tickets for the four leaders and 16 scouts. On the train we had to get signatures from members of the group who had met specific criteria e.g. Could do a handstand, had been to New York, was younger than themselves etc. it was a great way to pass the time and get to know each other better.
When we arrived on Greystones we made our way to the harbour (after a pit stop at the toilet), where the Clifftop walk began. It did take a while to get to the actual cliffs, but when we did, the scenery was amazing. We saw rock climbers on the cliffs, Cormerants and gulls on the rocks, and picked wild blackberries, which were delicious. We stopped for lunch just off the trail where it was wide enough for us to sit without blocking the way for other walkers.
It was a beautiful day, so the walk was quite busy. After lunch we continued on to Bray. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to climb Bray hill because the train in the morning was delayed, which set us back about an hour. The flip side of this though was that we did have time to hit the chipper. Num Num. We timed the train home perfectly and arrived back in Balbriggan at 4:30pm. Everyone had a great day and is looking forward to the next hike.
