Beavers visit Balbriggan Fire Station

The Beavers continued their work on their Emergencies Badge by visiting the Fire Station in Balbriggan tonight.

A huge thanks to all the crew at Balbriggan Fire Station. Gerry gave us a fantastic overview of all the types of incidents they help out with. He told us what happens when an accident happens, how when their beepers go they're on the move within minutes. Elaine and Glen dressed in their full fire fighting gear, breathing apparatus and all, to show us what they have to wear while putting fires out.

To cap off their brilliant evening, the jaws of life and the specialist cutting equipment were set up, and the kids (under very close supervision!) got to have a go opening the jaws of life.

Jaws of Life

We are very lucky to have a parent in our group volunteering there who helped set up the visit. Thanks Elaine. We have to say a big THANK YOU to Dermot Murray who coordinated with Therese to set up the visit. Dermot is retiring next month after 33 years of dedicated service.

Then the kids were given a very detailed tour around the fire truck, getting to go inside it, and then inspect all the equipment stored along the sides of it.

The visit was finished off with a surprise of crisps, sweets, and drinks for each Beaver. Thanks to all the members of Balbriggan Fire Station for a brilliant evening. The Beavers learned loads and had a lot of fun at the same time.

Next on the list is the Garda Station. Let's hope nobody ends up having to stay over!!!! 👮🏻More info to come.
